Open Knowledge Festival 2014

We are looking for unique and innovative contributions to this year's festival, and we’ve listed some possible formats which you might use to inspire your session.

Workshop

Brainstorm, build, code, and design solutions to real-world challenges. Bring skills together. Test and iterate with users. Engage participants in a collective learning process and share outputs with global community.

Fireside Chat

Thoughtful, informal and brief presentation from a subject matter expert, followed by discussion with the audience. Learn and share about a grassroots initiative, a community project, a tool and more.

Speed Geeking

Quickly expose participants to a new information about any topic: a project, a working group, a tool, a revolution! Multiple presenters (with practical experience in the topic area, tool or method) are ready to share their knowledge, and each of them has a station and 5-10 minutes at her/his disposal. Participants visit each station, one after the other, getting to know about a wide variety of different topics in a very short time.

Hackathon

Intense, exploratory collaboration between data wranglers, programmers, engineers, graphic designers, interface designers to produce new tools, programmes or hardware for the open movement.

Data Expedition

An exploration-based approach to learning. Explore real data as a team, learning through real research. Learn to formulate the right questions, to analyse and to present your findings.

Kick-off Meetup

Ideal for groups who are coming together for the first time to plan to work longer-term towards a shared goal. This format focuses on networking, building connections and drafting plans for future work.

Sprint

A session with the agreed goal of producing a prototype, a tool, a toolkit – a tangible outcome. If the time of the scheduled session is not enough to complete the sprint, no worries! There is plenty of space and time to continue your session informally.
